Sabotaging Your Connectivity

I can't tell you how many times I have gone into a home with the owner complaining about dropping network and slow Internet speeds just to look into there closet and find a nest of wires that only a rat could appreciate. Or my favorite is when they shove the wireless router between the filing cabinet and their computer and wonder why they can't get a signal in the next room.

Maybe it's out of ignorance or lack of education, but people are constantly sabotaging their own connectivity. Before wiring a house qualified installers are trained on the intricate design of network wiring. How each pair of wires in a cable are manufactured with a specific number of twists per inch and laid out withing the sheath for the optimum performance and speed. We are not allowed to untwist a pair of wires when making a connection more than half an inch and we cannot have a bend in the wire with a radius more than two inches.  All this is specified to make sure that the network speeds required are not inhibited by the wiring its self.

With all the electronic devices around today that are relying more and more on the performance of our networks it behooves any responsible home owner to pay a little more attention to the quality in which the wire their networks. Choosing appropriate lengthen wires that are not all crimped up with twist ties, pinched in drawers or jammed under baseboards will not only help to offer a more presentable appearance, but will provide a faster and more reliable experience.
