The End of the World… Or Something Else

Prepare yourself because I am about to blow your mind with my ability to see the near future. Not really. For some reason I have not been blessed with the gift of precognition, but I can guess – I’m not any good at that either.

The Nuts and Bolts of High-Definition

So I’m sure everyone has heard of HD Television by now, and most people have either purchased one or are planning to in the future.  But what I am growing more aware of is that although people have heard of High-Definition –and they want it– few people understand the nuts and bolts of what it is and why they should have it. I am going to try and make sense of all this and maybe clear the mud up a bit.

Times They Are A Changing

For the past two years I have been trying to warn people working in the security alarm field of what I saw as the future of the industry. I know my passion is for home electronics and A/V stuff, but I have been in the security business basically my whole life and there is quite a bit of overlap in the two.

Vanilla

I love vanilla ice cream. It goes well with almost all deserts, it goes well with almost all toppings, and it even goes well by its self. It is the perfect staple for any sweet tooth concoction. I really don't understand why calling something "vanilla" is a derogatory term. Plain is exactly what we want about 90 percent of the time. So the question then becomes. What do we want for that other 10 percent?

My Rocking Entertainment System

So it occurs to me that I have been so excited writing all about cool ways to build your own system that I have over looked an opportunity to write about my own.  As I have said before, my system is always changing and seldom stays the same for long, but here is the revision I have been enjoying as of late.

A Creative Solution to an Uncommon Problem

I recently was asked to help provide a solution for a rather interesting situation. My mother and father were planning to take a group of people in their RV on a three day road trip from Nashville Tennessee to Pincher Creek Alberta in Canada. Needless to say, their activity and entertainment options would be rather limited for such a long journey in such a confined space. And thus the problem presented itself.

Rock and Roll!

This is the latest design from a young man named Shmuel Linski, and yes that's concrete you're seeing. He taken his passion with working with concrete and enjoyment of music and combined them into a rather interesting product. Now, I have no idea if these speakers sound good, but the concept does present a lot of opportunities for creative solutions.

A Better AV Experience for About $2K

I did a little bit of research and put together entertainment system that I proudly recommend to my sister, or anyone else not looking to dump a load on electronics.  It includes everything you would need to create a good entertainment experience with all the bells and whistles like 3D TV, Blu-Ray player, the best in surround sound and a 110watt active subwoofer. The System is as follows:

Big Experience, Little Coin

It is understandable that in this economy people are not able to drop a chunk of change on their entertainment system, but just because one is tightening their purse strings does not necessarily mean they have to sacrifice quality or enjoyment. There are a few simple tips you can follow to get a great system and save a ton of money in the process. In fact, it is how I have built my system for less than half of what it would cost if I had purchased everything outright.

A Struggle for Independence

In honor of our Independence Day celebration I thought I would share a little about the fight for independence in my own life, or at least in my own living room. No I don't feel the need to secede from a tyrannical government (at the moment any way), but I might be likely to go and chuck all my subwoofer cables as a form of protest into the nearest bay that I can find.  I am tired of having my subwoofer placement limited by the need for interconnect cables.
