There are Three Kinds of People Out There

So I was at one of those gigantic electronics box stores the other day and I noticed something.  There was about a million big screen high definition 3D compatible televisions hanging on the wall and people wanted to buy them.  It is pretty easy to separate those people into three different categories.  First there’s the guy who wants the newest and the coolest with all the bells and whistles.  That one is pretty easy; it’s on the end cap with the spotlights and disco ball hovering above it.
Then there is the guy looking for the cheapest thing he can get his hands on.  That’s easy too; just look in the corner with the red clearance tags on it.  And then there was everybody else, looking at the million -2 TVs that are left. (And who needs all those options anyway?)  If you are like everybody else looking for a good TV that offers a decent variety of features and will prove to be reliable for the next few years and can be purchased at a reasonable price, then might I offer you a suggestion?  Get an advocate!
What do I mean? Well, retail box stores are designed to sell stuff and sell it at the best margins it can.  Obviously the newest and most feature packed TV’s are usually the ones that carry the biggest margins.  And the older outdated modes are priced to be moved out of the store to make room for TVs that can bring a profit.  That leaves everything in the middle to fend for its self.  On the other hand, a custom installation company has a business model that is completely different from a retail box store.  Sure they like margins, but usually they are more focused on building a customer base.  Even if all you need is a TV and simple installation they are going to spend the time to understand your needs and the application you are facing.  They will sift through all those millions of options and cut them down to just a couple options that would be appropriate for you. Custom installers make nearly no money at all on televisions, but for the opportunity to impress you and gain a customer for life they are going to bend over backwards for you.  Or at least offer a heck of a lot more customer service than most box stores could offer.
So, the next time you are looking to make a new TV purchase and have no idea what you need, but want something that will last; don’t head to the local “Buy More” just to maybe save a buck.  Instead give your local Audio Video Professional a call and know you are saving yourself from a headache or twelve.
